Litigation Support

We recognise that we're currently living through a particularly difficult communications era.

Nimbleness is essential, as is hard-won experience: that is what we deliver.

Wilkinson Butler currently supports legal firms with PR in several legal actions.

Peter Wilkinson and Andrew Butler are lead consultants.

Peter Wilkinson

Peter has supported clients many judicial and semi-judicial hearings, the first being the Bulldog’s salary cap scandal in 2002, then a number of ICAC hearings and royal commissions (most recently the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse), as well as many court cases. He is one of Australia’s most experienced PR professionals at court PR.

In the case of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse, Peter worked closely with lawyers and a client to advise on strategy design, including how to best manage reputation outcomes in a combative environment, including the best approach to giving evidence in a televised and emotionally charged forum, as well as how to deal with media outside the hearing.

Prior to his PR career, Peter was for 30 years a journalist, including on programs such as the ABC’s Four Corners, This Day Tonight and The Journal (predecessors to 7:30), and Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes and ACA. While at Channel Nine Peter represented the station at a number of defamation proceedings.

Andrew Butler

Andrew has extensive experience supporting clients in high-profile class actions, assisting in:

  • Recruiting lead plaintiffs
  • Promoting the action to group members
  • PR around hearings
  • Book building through traditional and digital media

He has also supported clients facing the Fair Work Commission and a variety of major industrial relations campaigns. Additionally, Andrew has guided clients through high-profile criminal and discrimination proceedings.
