About

David McLachlan is Wilkinson Butler’s representative based in Brisbane, with impressive credentials in media, politics, corporate relations and crisis management. He is a past winner of the Public Relations Institute of Australia Golden Target Award for crisis management.

David’s in-house corporate affairs roles have been with Qantas Airways, the Commonwealth Bank, Brown Brothers Wines and Thiess Engineering, all presenting unique external and internal stakeholder communications challenges that have contributed to David’s depth of experience and knowledge.

As a consultant, he led the reputation management team responsible for advising and media training the executives of a major pharmaceutical company subjected to extortion and subsequent customer poisoning. Other crises David has managed include production line contamination of a popular consumer product and a fatal aircraft crash in North Queensland.

He has been an adviser to a federal cabinet minister, with responsibility for communications relating to the Government’s asset sales program, and was a media adviser to a federal leader of the opposition.

For over 15 years he represented over 30,000 constituents in Brisbane’s northern suburbs in Brisbane City Council, with civic cabinet accountability (and spokesman responsibility) for Council deliverables in areas such as waste management, parks and sustainability, road building and maintenance and other infrastructure.

He trained with the ABC and reported on current affairs radio programs  ‘AM’, ‘PM’ and ‘The World Today’ in Sydney and Canberra; with Channel Seven News in Sydney and later worked as the Executive Producer of the John Laws Program.
